How to Replace the Battery in Your Thermostat
A blank screen or low battery warning on your thermostat can cause confusion—but the fix is usually quick and easy. At PR Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning in Fresno, we’re here to walk you through changing your thermostat battery step-by-step.
1. Confirm the Battery Is Low or Dead
Check your thermostat screen. If it’s blank or shows a low battery icon, it’s time for a battery replacement.
2. Remove the Thermostat from the Wall
Gently grab the thermostat on both sides and pull it straight out from the wall mount. It should come off with light pressure.
3. Swap the Batteries
Remove the old batteries and replace them with new ones of the same type—typically AA or AAA. Pay attention to the polarity markings.
4. Reinstall the Thermostat
Click the thermostat back onto the wall mount and turn on your HVAC system. If the screen lights up and your system responds, the issue is fixed!
